Scott Holt

Scott Holt is a phenomenal blues guitar player. He's got a three piece band that I had the priviledge of seeing once and it was perhaps the best blues show I've ever seen. His guitar playing is unreal.

Scott got his start playing guitar for Buddy Guy for a number of reasons before starting his own band a few years ago.

Check him out at http://www.scottholt.com . You can also listen to a few of his songs at http://www.myspace.com/scottholt .

Jackie Greene

Jackie Greene is easily my favorite artist. He's a 24 year old singer/songwriter out of Sacramento who just signed a deal with Verve. A talented multi-instrumentalist who can play apparently just about anything -- guitar, harmonica, piano and more. His website is at http://www.jackie-greene.com

Check out Gone Wanderin', Judgement Day, Pale Blue Monday, Falling Back, Sweet Somewhere Bound, and Don't Mind Me, I'm Only Dying Slow -- or pretty much anything, they're all good. If you like that, you'll like 'em all so go buy his cds.

You can also get some free, unofficial, low quality downloads at http://www.gonewanderin.com.

Jeffrey Foucault

Today I'm going to mention a singer/songwriter I just discovered a few weeks ago. Jeffrey Foucault is a talented songwriter who can play the guitar and sing very well. He's also cool because on his website he's got lots of good songs available for dowload -- http://www.jeffreyfoucault.com . My favorites on there are Moonshiner, Doubletree, Ships, and Dove and the Waterline but they're all pretty good. Moonshiner is the same old traditional that Bob Dylan does on the Official Bootleg Series, Vol 2 and yes, I really like Bob's version as well.

Avalon Blues

First blog post.........what to say.......

I'm finally getting a blog because I have something worth putting here I think. I'm going to, at least initially, use this to post cool songs and artists that I like or have recently discovered. So, check a few out -- if you like 'em, keep coming back. If you don't, quit wastin' your time here.

Also, in case you're wondering, Avalon Blues comes from the 1928 album that Mississippi John Hurt recorded (I tried about 5 other names first -- all taken). I would say that if you like the old country delta blues that you should check him out but if you like the old country delta blues I'm sure you've heard him. If you haven't heard him -- he's a phenomenal finger picker that people still compare other artists to up to this day. Two of my favorites are Frankie and Spike Driver Blues.

One more item in this first post. If you haven't checked it out yet, take a look at Napster. $10 a month to listen to just about any song you want. I know some of you just don't feel right subscribing to music, I didn't either, but, seriously, if you have broadband, do the math.

Anyway, that's it for now, check on back for more...... (don't worry -- they won't all be 70 year old blues songs)
